Deadpool, Wolverine & Double Standards

A few days ago I went and saw Deadpool and Wolverine.

Don’t worry, this isn’t a spoiler.

A standout moment in the film was when Hugh Jackman, ripped as ever, ditched his shirt.

The people in the theatre went wild with cheers and applause…

A testament to his incredible physique at age 55.

It got me thinking about the sharp contrast in how we celebrate fitness in movies versus real life.

On the big screen, shredded physiques like Jackman’s are idolized…

Viewed as the pinnacle of dedication, hard work, and masculinity.

Audiences applaud their near-superhuman appearance as if it’s what heroes are meant to be.

Yet, outside movie theaters, the narrative shifts dramatically.

Society often sends mixed signals, encouraging people to “be themselves” without change, especially when it comes to fitness.

While self-acceptance is crucial, there’s a growing trend to celebrate staying the same.

Even if it means the glorification of unhealthy lifestyles under the guise of positivity.

Here’s the problem with that…

There is no happiness without progress.

The same discipline and commitment admired in our movie heroes are often dismissed in everyday life as “unnecessary” or “superficial”.

Why the disconnect?

Why do we cheer for fictional heroes to be in top form but settle for less in ourselves and others?

Shouldn’t we encourage everyone to strive for their healthiest, fittest, strongest selves…

Just as we admire those characters on the big screen?

It’s time to shift our real-world perspective.

Let’s cheer for real-life changes as loudly as we do in the theaters.

Because EVERYONE has the potential to be their own superhero.
