I’m writing this from the tranquil shores of Tulum, Mexico, where I’m recalibrating my spirit on my bi-annual trip here.
I’m away from the normal grind, but that doesn’t mean I’m taking a break from discipline.
In fact, I’m doubling down.
I made sure to stay at a hotel where everything aligned with my lifestyle.
The food is clean and protein-packed, exactly what I need to fuel my body right.
I’m basically eating grass-fed steak, organic eggs, and fruit all day, and a protein shake after my workout.
Yes, I brought my favorite protein supplement, along with 11 other supplements that I take.
You can find all my supplement recommendations here.
I usually eat 4-5 times a day
Here I have 2 big meals and 1 lighter meal in the evening.
Even though my meal timing and frequency are different, I am still getting to my daily protein goal of 200g per day…
Which is 1 gram of protein per pound of my lean body mass.
Just like when I’m home. No compromises.
Besides clean food, the hotel has a bunch of different wellness activities every day
Yoga, breath work, sound healing, and even a Temazcal session, which is an ancient Aztec pre/post battle ritual.
There are even “functional HIIT” workout classes on the beach every morning at 0800 sharp.
I signed up for every class for this upcoming week.
Maybe you’re thinking, “You’re on vacation, relax and take it easy. Live a little.”
Here’s the thing though…
I love fitness. I love how I feel when I eat clean and train hard.
Staying active and imposing discipline amplifies my quality of life…
Including my vacation experience.
The more active I am, the more energy I have!
So to stay as active as possible, my vacation routine looks like this…
Wake up at 7. Use the cold tub.
Yoga or a functional fitness beach workout at 8.
From 9–10 I read one of the 3 books I brought while eating my breakfast.
Which is 4 scrambled eggs, 2 egg whites, with vegetables and some fruit by 0930.
My daily step goal is 12,000 which I track with my Oura ring.
At 1230 I’ll walk 30 minutes on the beach to the nearest gym.
I’ll kill a 45-minute workout, followed by another 30-minute walk back under the beaming sun.
Even with all that I still have plenty of time to lay on the beach, relax, go shopping, or do an evening breath work class in the Gratitude tent here.
Having a powerful, consistent routine is paramount to your personal development and mental health.
Structure alleviates anxiety.
Why don’t I just relax and eat whatever I feel like since I’m on vacation?
Because honestly, I would feel terrible and be bored out of my mind.
I love fitness. I love movement.
The more active I am, the better I feel—mood, energy, mindset, you name it.
Training hard and eating right on my vacation allows me to enjoy it even more.
I’ve crafted this temporary routine to give myself no other choice but to level up – mentally and physically, while I’m out here recharging my batteries.
Create systems and structures in your life that will help you arrive where it is you want to be with the least amount of resistance.
In order to do that, you have to always be prepared so you’re in control of your environment, so your environment isn’t controlling you.
Being prepared is not just half the battle; it’s the cheat code to victory.
As Benjamin Franklin once famously said, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”
At Nutrition Solutions, we show you that when you set your environment up for success, failure becomes impossible.
If you have clean food available, you will eat clean food.
Don’t just take your goals seriously when it’s convenient. Take them seriously all the time.
Because why choose to be less when you can be more?
Prepare. Win.
