Is Your Diet Hurting your Mental Health?

Is Your Diet Hurting your Mental Health?

Stress, anxiety and depression…

Do they drive people to eat unhealthy foods?
Or is eating unhealthy foods driving people to stress, anxiety and depression?

Let’s find out…

From a young age, we learn that eating healthy will help us look and feel our PHYSICAL best.

What we don’t hear though, is how significantly nutrition also affects our mental health.

Sugar and processed foods cause inflammation not just in the body, but the brain as well.
Eventually this leads to mental health issues, like depression and anxiety.

When we’re feeling stressed or depressed…
Usually it’s highly processed, sugar-filled or fast foods we reach for in search of a quick “pick-me-up”.

But what if…
These same “comfort foods” are adding to…
Or are primarily responsible for stress, anxiety & depression?!

In 2017…
A team of mental health researchers conducted an experiment to see if dietary changes would help reduce depression.
They recruited 67 people who were clinically depressed – and split them in 2 groups.

Both groups admitted to consuming a diet with lots of highly processed junk food & sugar..

Group A

Went to meetings with a nutritional consultant who gave them nutritional guidance.

Group B

Met regularly with a research assistant who provided social and emotional support- but no dietary advice.

As the study progressed…
Group A began making BIG CHANGES to their diet.

They replaced candy, chips & pastries with nutrient dense whole foods such as fruits, vegetables & nuts…
They cut out the highly processed “meats” found in most fast food chains and replaced it with lean, quality proteins…
Especially grass-fed meats…. (Like beef, bison, elk and venison!)

Grass-fed beef has 3-5x the amount of omega-3 fatty acid as conventional raised beef.

Omega-3’s are known to be very therapeutic for mental health.
The anti- inflammatory effects of Omega-3″s have been shown to relieve depression in more than 30 clinical trials!
After 12 weeks, depression scores in Group A reduced SIGNIFICANTLY!

Not only did Group A see a significant drop in depression scores…

An astounding 33% of people in Group A reported they no longer felt depressed!

Compared to just 8% in Group B.

Dr. Felice Jacka…
One of the world’s leading authorities on the relationship between diet and mental health disorders …
And the president of the International Society for Nutritional Psychiatry Research, who led this study…

Has gone on record to say:
“In our study, out of every single dietary food group we looked at, including vegetables, fruits, salads beans etc.
The strongest correlate of good mental health was grass-fed beef intake.”

What we can learn from this is…

Highly processed foods don’t just lead to obesity, disease, a diminished quality of life and shorter life expectancy…

They destroy mental health.
They contain highly additive preservatives that hijack the pleasure center of our brain.

The same part of the brain as drugs and alcohol…
So the more you eat, the more you crave!

This cycle leads to more unwanted weight gain, health issues, stress, anxiety & feelings of hopelessness.

To stop craving these foods, we have to stop eating them. (duh)
So how do we stop eating them?

Simple. Get them out of you home!
Today preferably.

Clear out the cabinets, give (throw) away any snacks hidden in your desk…

REMOVE ANY/ALL TEMPTATION FROM YOUR ENVIRONMENT.

Research like this is why Nutrition Solutions uses grass-fed meats in every meal delivery.

A very simple, effective way to lose fat, build muscle and improve your mental health…
Is to simply incorporate grass-fed meat into your diet – at least 3 days a week.

Not only is it high in lean muscle building, fat destroying protein…
It taste delicious!

It’s also full of mood enhancing, mental health boosting Omega-3 fatty acids!

Stress isn’t going away.
So it’s important our default response to it isn’t something that turns our stress into full blown anxiety or depression!

If you sometimes struggle with intense stress, anxiety or feeling depressed…
Understand the foods you choose to eat in those situations will do 1 of 2 things…

Make you feel better…
Or make you feel worse.

When we reach for junk, it will likely only intensify our stress response!

Having this awareness and taking action accordingly will change your life forever!
